Beyond Default Auto-Selection

Octofy's automatic model selection is smart. It analyzes your prompt and picks the best model. But what if you have personal preferences? Maybe you've found that Claude writes better code for your stack, or that Gemini handles your research style perfectly.

Custom Model Autopilot lets you set those preferences once and have Octofy follow them automatically.

How It Works

In your settings, you can assign models to task categories:

• Coding: Route all code-related prompts to your preferred coding model
• Creative writing: Send writing tasks to the model you trust for tone and style
• Research: Direct research and analysis to the model with the best factual accuracy for your needs
• Image generation: Choose your preferred image model as the default

Octofy still analyzes your prompts to detect the task type, but instead of picking its own default, it follows your assignments.

Why Customize?

Personal experience

Benchmarks say one thing, but your experience might say another. If Claude consistently gives you better Python code than GPT, that's a valid preference worth encoding.

Workflow consistency

When you know which model will handle each task, your outputs become more predictable. Same model, same style, same quality baseline.

Cost optimization

Some models are more cost-efficient than others for specific tasks. Route simple questions to faster, lighter models and reserve premium models for complex work.

Mixing Auto and Manual

Custom Model Autopilot works alongside auto-selection. Set preferences for the tasks you care about and let Octofy handle the rest automatically. Assign a coding model but leave research and writing to Octofy's default selection.

You can also override the autopilot on any individual message by manually selecting a model. The autopilot picks up again on the next message.

Setting It Up

Go to Settings, find the Prompt Preferences section, and assign your preferred models to task types. It takes 30 seconds to configure and immediately changes how Octofy routes your prompts.
